I have always loved how Winslow Homer’s
compositions exposed his community’s intimacy with the waters along the New England coast. I love
his dark hulled schooners and his barefoot children. As I have been surrounded by the same beautiful
coast line many times over the last few years, I have found myself reflecting on Homer’s work so much that I decided
to let the influence take me.
This series is specifically inspired by the paintings Homer made, both watercolor and in oil on canvas,
around Plymouth and Gloucester, MA, in the late nineteenth century.
These are studio paintings in oil on lead-primed linen.
They are obviously not literal copies of Homer’s work, but purely fictional accounts originated by what I see
everyday and then charmed into the past with his help.
All are available for purchase.
I hope you like them.
Most sincerely, T.
